Halo Orbit Families

Previous Next Halos
At each Lagrange point, there is a whole family of halo orbits. These plots show the Sun-Earth halo orbit family at L2 (EL2). There is a great variety of halo orbits to choose from in each family. Some halos have long periods and low inclinations, others have short periods and high inclinations. The larger halos in this "Northern" family all linger for long periods above the Earth's north pole. Similarly, a symmetric family of "Southern" halo orbits linger below the Earth's south pole.
