Overview

As the result of a NASA Oceanography sponsored workshop held at Woods Hole, MA on May 9-10, 2002, a new GPS Oceanography Working Group has been formed to identify the key features and advantages of GPS bistatic radar technology and to investigate the key science drivers for this approach. Attendees included U.S.-based research institutions and several European groups. The group will also communicate with the oceanography user communities to make them aware of GPS technologies and their possible applications. This effort is designed to encourage NASA, ESA, or other agencies to consider the possibility of launching a space mission for GPS remote sensing of the oceans.
